MBA is a broad discipline and a branch of Management which covers many different things related to business and Administration. The Executive MBA which is widely known as EMBA program has been among the most dynamic and fastest growing programs for business professionals as they help to expand their education and knowledge to take on higher roles within their organization. Also, EMBA program help executives keep themselves updated with the new management techniques and trends that arise with change in time and structures of business models. All Executive MBA programs are meant for students who are serious about their studies and career at the same time. Most students in the EMBA program have five or more years’ experience in management positions.
Various colleges in Kathmandu offer executive MBA (EMBA) programs. These programs are designed for ambitious professionals who have been working in middle to senior level position in relevant fields. Work experience is compulsory to enroll in the Executive MBA (EMBA) program. Some say that EMBA classes are not as deep as the average MBA class, but others argue the classes are faster pace, but all the same material is covered.
The classes for the EMBA program are run on a convenient modular basis, ideal for busy executives and active job holders. For example In KUSOM, EMBA classes run full day at Saturdays and one or two evenings on Sunday , Monday, Tuesday ( 5.30 pm to 8.30pm). Other institutes also have similar flexible course hours.

Evening MBA in Nepal
Evening MBA or MBA evening is the MBA program which is designed for students who want to continue their studies along with job or other engagements during the daytime. Basically the classes are conducted in evening from around in-between 5pm to 9pm with slight different schedules depending on colleges. The course are covered by this program is almost identical to the regular MBA. To cover the reduced class hours, evening MBA are of longer duration than other MBA. In Nepal, almost all evening MBA programs are around 3 years of duration.
In Nepal MBA is running under two categories:
- By taking affiliation from domestic Universities like TU, Kathmandu University, Purbanchal University, Pokhara University etc.
- By taking affiliation from foreign Universities.
Online MBA or distant MBA , weekends MBA are not much popular in Nepal.

Master of Business Administration (MBA) Program at Tribhuwan University
The MBA program is implemented by the autonomous School of Management (SOM) on a full time basis. The program’s focus is on developing managerial and entrepreneurial capabilities of students through the curricular and co-curricular activities.
School of Management at Tribhuvan University (SOMTU) is responsible for operating full-time professional MBA program. The SOMTU MBA program is a two-year course of 60 credit hours which spread over four semesters. Tribhuwan University claims that its curriculum has been designed with the components that involve course works, practicum, internships, and research projects.
MBA of TU is regarded by most students and professionals as the best master’s degree in Management faculty to achieve in Nepal or simply the best MBA in Nepal. There is a tough competition to get admission in the TU MBA program. Few candidates are selected after a series of tests and interviews to enroll in the MBA program. In each intake SOMTU will admit a total of 35 students (30 for regular students and 5 allocated for the Corporate Sponsored and Foreign student quota.
MBA in Global Leadership and Management
The MBA in Global Leadership and Management program seeks to develop professional skills in students needed to successfully lead an organization in a global environment. This is a degree program of the School of Management (SOM), Tribhuvan University (TU) in association with the School of Management & Economics, Graduate School of Global Management and Leadership, Handong Global University (HGU), Republic of Korea. The Program will be based on the MOU signed between TU and HGU.
Cost of Tribhuwan University MBA program (As of 2016 AD):
The program cost per student will be Rs. 385,000 for the two-year program for regular students and Rs. 495,000 for sponsored and foreign students. This is in the line(or slightly lower) with the average cost to study MBA in Nepal concidering different colleges and different Universities. Each student shall pay all fees due for a semester at the beginning of the semester.
The breakdown of the semester wise fee will be as follows:
First Semester Fee Admission Fee: Rs. 35,000 Semester Charges & Tuition Fee Rs. 87,500 Payment at the time of admission Rs. 122,500
Second Semester onwards Semester Charges & Tuition Fee Rs. 87,500 Total fee to be paid from second semester to fourth semester Rs. 87,500 per semester.
Eligibility for the SOMTU MBA program:
The applicant to the MBA program must meet the following minimum requirements to be eligible to apply for the MBA program:
-A minimum of 15 years’ formal education (12 years of schooling plus three years of graduation).
-Must have secured a minimum CGPA of 2.0 or 45 percent in Bachelor’s level.
The final decision on admission is taken on the basis of performance scores of an applicant in the admission tests.
Admission Tests to get admission in the MBA program of TU
SOMTU shall conduct a four stage admission tests for appropriate screening of applicants. The applicants shall be screened in each of the stages.
Written test: This test will be based on the SOMAT format. The duration of the test will be 3 hours and 30 minutes.
Group discussion: Groups discuss on a given topic. Performance of applicants is recorded by a panel of judges based on leadership, logic, and conclusions.
Individual presentation: Applicants present their views and opinions on a given topic to the panel of judges.
Personal interview: Personal interview to measure applicants motivation level, attitude and capability to handle the pressure and rigors of the MBA program. SOMTU has the final authority in selecting the students for the program

When it comes to MBA in Nepal many students think of KUSOM in the first place. This is due to the ling and handsome history of MBA programs conducted by Kathmandu University. The MBA program of Kathmandu University is widely respected not only in Nepal but also in abroad.
TOTAL COST OF MBA PROGRAM AT KATHMANDU UNIVERSITY
Total cost to complete MBA at Kathmandu University is approximately Rs. 400,000 (according to KU website as on February 2016)
The breakdown of total cost of MBA package at KU:
• RS 10,000- caution money. This will be returned to students after completion of the MBA program.
• The total amount can be paid in 12 Installments.
The above cost is for Nepali citizens only. There is a different fee structure for foreign students to study MBA at Kathmandu University.
*For Students from SAARC countries, one and half times of the normal fee;
*For students from other countries, double the normal fee.
These expenses are solely for the academic package and do not include cost of books and stationary, accommodation, or any other personal expenses.
Kathmandu University school of management has the rights to change the fees without prior notification.
MBA CURRICULUM AT KUSOM, NEPAL
The MBA curriculum of KU is designed to enrich students in both theoretical and practical knowledge in management while helping them to enhance the depth and breadth of their managerial capabilities.
Five structured levels of courses that lead to MBA degree are:

At KU, a student is required to complete altogether 30 courses totaling 62 credit hours to get the MBA degree. Students have the option of taking additional specialization courses earning up to 65 credits to earn a Specialist MBA degree.
In each term the faculty members responsible for the course do evaluation of academic performance of students in each course offered. The academic performance of the students will be judged through:
• Continuous In-term Assessment and
• End-term Examination.
The Continuous In-term Assessment of the student will be made by the concerned faculty member in any or a combination of
• Written test
• Quizzes and oral test
• Workshop practices
• Assignments
• Term paper
• Project work
• Case studies, analysis and discussion

• Class participation etc.
The KUSOM MBA program is an intensive two-year course spread over six terms of full time study. In the first year students complete three terms, each lasting 14 weeks involving intensive class-room study and practical business projects. In the second year, they complete three terms with an option of doing dual specialization and earning more credits in their area of concentration. They may also choose more electives for broadening their managerial competency base. During the entire sixth term, students work as management interns in organizations for hands-on experience of management in real time.
The annual cycle of KUSOM MBA program is as follows:

Program Requirement for MBA at KU
The minimum criteria to get admission in MBA program at Kathmandu University are:
– A Bachelor’s degree of at least three years’ duration in any discipline.
– Minimum of 50 percent marks in aggregate or 2 CGPA (from universities approved by Kathmandu University).
Formal Admission process for MBA in KU takes place in
– December-January for the Spring Term and
– August – September for the Fall Term.
Selection of the candidates for admission in MBA program at KU is based on:
– Scores on the KUSOM Management Admission Test (verbal and quantitative reasoning, data interpretation, and proficiency in English language),
– written English test, group discussion, and personal interview; and

Admission Procedure for MBA in Nepal at Pokhara University
An eligible candidate applying for the MBA program at Pokhara University has take a written Entrance Examination and a Personal Interview. The judgement for admission will be based on various factors along with the performance in written test and Interview. The candidate will be offered admission according to the merit list published on the basis of student’s past academic performance, entrance examination and the personal interview.
Eligibility for Admission in the MBA program at PU
The applicant must have a minimum of 15 years formal education (12 years of schooling plus three years of graduation) having a minimum CGPA of 2.0 or 45 percent in Bachelor’s level in any discipline.

I’m a BBA student. I’m studying BBA in Kathmandu. I want to ask about MBA in Nepal, if MBA has any scope. I want to study MBA in Nepal but I’m confused in choosing good MBA College in Nepal. There are not so many MBA Colleges in Nepal but also I doubt if they are good enough as British MBA Colleges. Will it be good to study MBA in Nepal or IT would be good if I try for MBA in abroad. Its better to go abroad if you really want a clear vision for MBA…you can do MBA integrated( information systems, financial mgmt, marketing)….plus there are integrated courses along with MBA…which will add more value to your capital in the coming future
