I am recently studying plus 2 in Hotel management in Pokhara. I see that many of the Nepali students going either India or other countries especially Australia, US, Canada, Singapore, Malaysia for their graduation, internship and post graduation degrees and they don’t seem returning Nepal after completing their higher degrees in Hotel management abroad. Are there no attractive career prospects for hotel management graduates in Nepal? Also why most of the students go abroad for doing masters in Hotel Management? I would also like to know is it better to Bachelors here in Nepal and go abroad to do masters degree or apply to study abroad for Bachelors degree. please make me clear regarding this trend of Nepali students studying hotel management and what will be best thing to do after completing Plus 2.

    Hi Krishna,
Hearing from feels like you are very much in dilemma regarding your hotel management studies. And you are having your hotel management studies in Pokhara only you should feel good about it because there are the tourist receiving hotels which could be good for the practicals related to the fields in Hotel management and coming to the point.
Hotel management studies is recently a newly growing subject for the management students which has gained its priority these days. This is because of the fact that tourism has gained importance these days. Yes, Hotel Management is in direct relationship with the development in the tourism sector.
Nepal holds a great potential in the tourism industry but there are no much provisions made to enhance this sector in the international level except in some places like Kathmandu, Pokhara, etc And because of this cause people don’t feel the need of formal education in the field of Hotel Management. The people take some basic courses and then they are employed in the hotel business.
But things are different at the international level as you know being a hotel management student there are so many sectors in this study from kitchen to guest receiving and management of the hotel departments which is rightly divided in the developed abroad countries. And there are no much big hotels in Nepal except for the major tourist attraction places like Pokhara and Kathmandu. But there are bigger hotels and greater possibilities in the abroad countries therefore the abroad study and the abroad placements have been an eye catching factor for the students studying hotel management.
Also there are some good colleges in graduate level studies in Hotel Management but i rarely see the provisions for the post graduation in the hotel Management studies in Nepal.
Its not like Nepal doesn’t have career possibilities for the Hotel Management graduates but due to the lack of proper p[policies and implementations of plans this sector hasn’t been able to evolve top its fullest and if the development of every eye catching tourist area could be well developed Nepal holds a huge scope for the students of the Hotel Management Studies.
Hope I could relief some of your queries.
    Thank You….
    Good Luck for the future.

    Hi Sulochna Adhikari,
    Let me help you some…  

    • Golden Gate International College, Battisputali, Kathmandu
    • Kathmandu Model College, Baghbazar, Kathmandu.
    • National College of Computer Studies, Paknajol, Kathmandu.
    • Nepal Academy of Tourism & Hotel Management, Kalimati, Kathmandu.
    • Nepal College of Travel & Tourism, Naxal, Kathmandu.
    • Nesfield Education Foundation, Prayag Pokahri, Lalitpur
    • Public Youth Campus, Chhetrapati, Kathmandu.
    • Texas International College, Chabahil, Kathmandu.

Affiliated to Kathmandu University (4 years program):

    • L A College of Management, Hattiban, Lalitpur.
    • Nepal College of Management, Dhobighat, Lalitpur.

    • Global Academy of Tourism & Hospitality Management.
    • International College of Hospitality Management, Shantinagar, Kathmandu.
    • Silver Mountain School Of Hotel Management, Launchor, Kathmandu.

Among the above mentioned affiliations the Tribhuwan University is the widely recognized affiliation because TU is among the oldest one and renowned in abroad too. But the other colleges are also good if you like.

It generally takes between 3 lakhs to 6 lakhs for studying Bachelors in Hotel Management n Nepal and as per the course duration except TU every other affiliation has got a four years program.

And you can see there are maximum colleges in Kathmandu only and Kathmandu is good for the practicals too because there are maximum tourist hotels in Kathmandu. And if you could find good among these colleges in Pokhara also it would be very good.

    Good luck for your future.

I second the opinion other friends have expressed about the bright future of hotel management in Nepal.Travel trade entrepreneurs say one of the principal reasons for increased self belief of buyers within the sector is the growing call for for hotel rooms, which they say is anticipated to grow substantially over the subsequent couple of years.

Moreover, some of world-class manufacturers are getting into Nepal in the near destiny, and there might be a upward thrust in call for, in particular for excessive-degree, professional experts. besides, hotels and international-class inns will be hiring human beings in distinctive departments like kitchen, carrier, housekeeping, meals and beverage, sales and advertising and marketing.

Hospitality leaders say Nepal will must produce greater than 1,5000 skilled manpower over the following 5 years to cater to the developing call for from the arena.

people’s belief toward motel and hospitality management education has been changing. The programme is not merely about culinary skills, but hotel management courses should groom students for success in ever-expanding hospitality zone. furthermore, the possibilities aren’t restricted to domestic barriers.

legitimate figures traders, together with home and overseas, have devoted funding in sixty five inn projects with a purpose to add 3,036 beds to the country’s tourist lodging capacity.

Non-resident Nepali Shesh Ghale is also building a five-star Hotel in Kathmandu (found somewhere in Internet, seemed reliable source, I forgot the source but I guess I found it in kathmandu post). The property will be referred to as Sheraton Kathmandu resort. Ghale’s MIT institution keeping Nepal has signed an agreement with Starwood resorts and resort worldwide Inc and has set the mission rolling. Slated to open in February 2018, the 225-room resort can be managed through Starwood resorts & resorts.

Likewise, Nepal Hospitality organization has signed a management agreement with a subsidiary of Marriott worldwide to open a four-big name property dubbed Fairfield through Marriott Kathmandu. The global emblem, Marriott, will look after the control of the resort. The proposed 10-storey lodge underneath construction in Thamel may have 108 rooms and is spread over -and-a-half ropanies of land and is slated to open via the beginning of 2016.
Other similar events and projects are being started to boost the tourism Industry in Nepal and I see a great future in Tourism Industry in near future which will help to create more hospitality related jobs and vacancies.
